they own 1/2 of all homes in the US.  congress won't let them fail completely, because it would kick off something that would make the great depression look like disneyland.

What better backer for your stock than the taxpayer? Do you think there is even the slightest chance that a democrat congress is going to allow a democrat created, tax free, government company being allowed to operate as a for profit entity to fail?

The fed has announced that they will bail out the company to the point of buying their shares. I can't imagine a better buy back plan than that.
