  1. taurine doesnt come from animals it is synthetically produced

  2. I don't have kids yet, and I don't know if those ingredients are common in formulas, but I was amazed at how difficult it was to find inredients lists online.  This was the only complete ingredient list I could find.  It's for Earth's Best Organic Soy formula.

Ingredients: Organic Corn Syrup, Organic Soy Protein, Organic High Oleic Sunflower Oil, Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Soy Oil, And Less Than 1 % Of Each Of The Following: Soy Lecithin, Vitamins: (Vitamin A Palmitate, Vitamin D3, Dl-Alpha-Tocopherol, Phytonadione, Thiamin Hydrochloride, Riboflavin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Vitamin Bi2, Niacinamide, Folic Acid, Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Sodium Ascorbate, Ascorbic Acid, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Choline Chloride, Inositol), Minerals: (Calcium Phosphate, Calcium Citrate, Magnesium Chloride, Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Sulfate, Cupric Sulfate, Potassium Iodide, Potassium Citrate, Potassium Chloride, Potassium Phosphate, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Selenite), L-Carnitine, Taurine, Methionine, Lipids: Dha (Docosahexaenoic Acid), Ara (Arachidonic Acid).

  3. As I have experienced sometimes it is just impossible to breastfeed.  As a result I have a whole lot of different types of formula in my home.  All of them have vegetable oils and DHA and ARA.  I looked online and found this about the DHA and ARA in Enfamil formulas:  "The sources of DHA and ARA in Enfamil A+ are Crypthecodinium cohnii oil (DHA) and Mortierella alpina oil (ARA) supplied by Martek Biosciences Corporation. The oil that provides DHA is made by microalgae (Crypthecodinium cohnii). The oil that provides the ARA is made by fungi (Mortierella alpina). These are the same fungi and microalgae that are commonly eaten by fish and animals."  I also found that all of the formulas that i have contain Taurine and this is what I found online as to why it is included in the formulas: "Cow’s milk is higher in phenylalanine and tyrosine but lower in taurine and cysteine. For this reason, cysteine and taurine are often added to formulas. The infant cannot convert cysteine and methionine to taurine, which may be active in neurotransmission, growth modulation and membrane stabilization."  I have both Soy and Non-Soy formulas from  Enfamil, Similac and Nestle: Good Start and they all contain very similar ingredients to attempt to make them as similar to breast milk as possible.  Hope this helps!!

  4. I breastfed both of mine so I'm not sure (not at slam at formula btw) but considering that soy is often not well tolerated by babies have you considered goat milk? Of course talk to you pedi first and find out all of your options.

  5. Why would you want to subject your infant to a formula that is not natural?  How about breast milk?
