Question:

Is there any information that says that adopted children have been brought up to do crimes?

This is for a speech class, primarily because I found out a point for abortion that adopted children are more likely to be brought up to crime than other children. And I want to know if there are Facts to back that up

  1. wow that's kind of offensive to us adoptees.

  2. I've heard that argument in favor of legalize abortion similar to this , but it's not adopted children they are talking about, it's children that are raised in the foster care system or in poverty by parents who are unprepared to care for them properly.

This topic was covered on NPR a while ago, and the argument was that the crime rate had gone down about 20 years after abortion was legalized, when the aborted children would have become adults. (this is not an opinion I agree with, but it is an argument I've heard)

I would venture to guess that adoptees are no more likely (if not less likely) to become involved in crimes.

  3. Well, have I got an outline for you! Go to the first link below [Silveroze.org].

Regrettably, statistics do show that the percentage of adopted children who experience emotional/psychological pathologies is signigicantly higher that that of non-adopted children. Most of these are non-lethal to anyone and anything but the adoptee's self-esteem and his/her relationships. [No small price.]

Research indicates that these emotional problems stem from the adoption itself and the secrecy that surrounds it.

Please check out the web sites below for additional information.

Don't jump to conclusions; I'm adopted [and never been arrested... yet.]

  4. ill give it a shot:

    http://law.jrank.org/pages/12004/Causes-...

Most of these go along the lines of their foster care or being an orphan.

Further prospective longitudinal adoption studies report that when both biological and adoptive parents are criminals, 24% of adopted children display criminal behaviour,

  5. Yeah, i agree, i think that orphaned kids or kids brought up in foster care where they move around a lot, or kids that are raised in orphanages are more likley to.

My aunt adopted 2 kids and I am adopted as well, and there is a long screening process to make sure people are fit to be parents.. most of the people adopting just want kids because they can't physcially have them, they adopt

so no, i highly dought that there are any statistics.

  6. No. There is no evidence that adopted children turn to criminal behavior more than other children. Adopted children typically have a more difficult adolescence based on their confusion with identity issues but, criminal behavior has never been associated with adoption.

  7. You're joking right?

I would love to know why if adopted children are brought up to do crimes, so many people are waiting over 5 years to adopt a child?

I wonder what the study's basis for facts was.

By the way,  I am 45,  I was adopted and have never even gotten a speeding ticket.

  8. I don't believe that there are any statistics to back up such a claim but one could speculate that some adoptive parents have less than amiable motives when adopting.

Why don't you take a look at http://www.amfor.net/acs/

but be sure to keep your BS goggles on as they have an obvious anti-adoption agenda (though I don't know why...)

  9. I have read very harsh statistics about non-adopted kids ending up in jail, that is kids who aged out of the system at age 18.
