  1. Good grief no! Keep going and reserve your motel room if you think you will be late.

  2. I've always found the drive across Nebraska desperately dull...

  3. Too bad Texas isn't on the way :(

That'd be one REALLY interesting place to stop!

    he he he

Oh man, we'd have a blast.

Linz, my cyber sister from another mister... LOL

  4. Kearney, LIncoln, North Platte, Ogalala.

They all have decent hotels at goos prices, but other than that...

If you're going next week, I'll wave as I pass you- I'm off to MInnesota.

  5. People are always ready to jump on Nebraska for being flat and boring, its unfortunate they have such a narrow view of beauty and interest...there is a lot to see there and to do depending on your tastes.

All along the state there are decent places, from hotels to campgrounds. Of course Omaha offers a large number of hotels ranging from more luxurious downtown ones to your basic Motel 6. 72nd and I-80 has a few nicer ones. There are also a great number at the "L" street exit as well as near the new Cabelas and 144th street exits to the west.

There are a few more stops along the way to Lincoln which offer a Super 8 to a discount hotel and at Lincoln the airport exit offers a number of brand names including a Ramada, Best Western, Days Inn, Hampton Inn, Hotel 6 and a Travelodge. Further into the city there are three very nice hotels, a Holiday Inn, an Embassy Suites and the Cornhusker, regarded to be one of the finest in the state.

Cities west along I-80 that provide clusters of name brand hotels include York, Grand Island, Kearney, Lexington, Cozad, a few in Gothenburg, North Platte and Ogallala (I've been there a great number of times and never smelt a thing, maybe there is a feedlot nearby that I missed). York, Kearney, Lexington, North Platte and Ogallala also offer a great number of restaurants along the interstate. Stuff from McDonalds to Applebees.

As far as exploring, Omaha offers the Henry Doorly Zoo but that requires at least a good day to look around in. The Strategic Air and Space Museum, Mahoney State Park (which has a large lodge-hotel) and the Wildlife Sufari (summers) are about 25 miles southwest of Omaha along I-80. Lincoln meanwhile offers numerous museums as well as two malls. Grand Island has the Stuhr Western Museum and a large shopping district along Highway 281. In Kearney you can visit the Cabelas store and the Great Platte River Road Museum that spans over the interstate.

If you are a nature lover, there are numerous places along the interstate that offer fishing and camping (word of warning, campgrounds along I-80 are generally noisy at night as I-80 traffic is busy at all hours)

Consider googling "Visit Nebraska" and look around the sites, they can offer more to do and see than I can.

  6. Dont stop in Ogallala. That whole town smells like a cattle barn. There isnt really anything interesting Nebraska. Wyoming has a couple of cool places in Cheyenne, Rawlins and Little America. Oh yeah when you get past the salt lake then there will be a big desert with white sands. You can get rocks and make a design or write your name. You will be able to see it from a long ways away.

  7. Linz, UP is right!!  When we went out west to Wyoming in our RV, we came back through Nebraska and we wanted to blow our heads off by the time we got to the end of that state.  It is SO long, and nothing to look at but fields.  I'm assuming you're hitting the southern end of Wyoming.  I think we stayed in Cheyenne at a campground, but I can't remember too much about it.  My overall memory of Wyoming was that it was utterly beautiful.

  8. well i would have to say NO

as for Wyoming if you have never been across I-80 your in for a real treat

There is nothing for miles and miles of nothing

Cheyenne is the capital on the east side and evanston is where the state nutt house is on the west side and in between there is a set of tunnels that you might enjoy going trough but other then that there is nothing
