For sun protection, rain protection etc... Even being bad for aerodynamics, does anything like that exist? Thanks!

  1. You are essentially describing a "human powered vehicle", See picture at the link).  A simple "roof" could be constructed but I can't image why. It would add weight, wind resistance and (probably) instability.

  2. You're talking about a fairing I think.  These are most often seen on recumbents and recumbent trikes but they are made for bikes too. Like a motorcycle they deflect rain and other junk away from the rider. A friend who has one says he stays dry as long as he keeps it over about 13 mph.

Full coverage is different. There are HPV's known as velomobiles that completely enclose the rider. They are usually built on trikes. Unfortunately, as you would expect, they are heavy (70 lbs plus) and expensive.

However, there is a company called Raingo (http://www.alternatives.com/ultimate/jpg... that makes exactly the kind of thing you are asking about. It is a lightweight, fairing/roof combination that completely protects the rider from airborne stuff (but doesn't look like a lot of protection from horizontal stuff...in fact it looks pretty goofy) but...

  3. you can get fenders, to keep rain grit and mud from splashing on you. there is a spandex screen you can get for when transporting on your roof rack, which keeps bugs and road grit from messing up your bike. but I haven't ever seen any other type of covering. I keep my bikes locked in the shed. although, I'm going to keep them in the basement for the winters now. I recently read something about hydraulic seals not liking sub-40 deg temps. so whilst my TCR is on my trainer, my Stumpy will be hanging on a wall in the basement..
