Is there any kind of shark for a 55 gal. tank?

Fresh water or salt water. I want one that looks like a real shark not a bala.

a bala isn't a shark but a carp more closley related to the koi and carp than any catfish or any shark (no relation), no.  A ray is in the shark family, a bala is a carp family not a shark

the only two types of true or listed as true fresh water sharks and they really are not are the bull, (remember the movie Jaws, based on that since bulls can and do live in fresh water for long periods of time) not good for aquariums and are not really fresh water and the second are  Carcharhinidae family which also are too large to keep in aquariums.  however like true morays ther are no true freshwater sharks known.

Petstores and web pages will tell you this to appease you into believeing oh I have a fresh water shark or moray, when in fact there are none.

Salt water sharks, the smallest shark there is is a Dwarf Lanternfish (Etmopterus perryi), which is about 7 1/2 inches and almost impossiable to find in any retail outlet.  Etmopterus hillianus or a Hemiscyllium ocellatum however, both are difficult for aquarium keepers to find.  There really isn't a true shark ok to put into a 55 gallon tank and be healthy or available.

Most stores will label cats and other fish as sharks, however they are not true sharks.  Sorry.  Even sand sharks are way too large to keep in a 55

No. There are no saltwater sharks that are in anyway suited to 55 gallons when larger.

Freshwater...? Well, it hard to say, I like the look of Colombian sharks(catfish), they look cool and a little shark-like, they also move like sharks. But they do have the trademark catfish whiskers.

almost any shark that is available wont look terribly like a real shark. besides that, most fish called sharks grow large and are VERY aggressive. in a 55 gallon tank, there are no suitable sharks.
