  1. No.  I don't want to be one of those people who just answers "ghosts don't exist", but in order for there to be a known biological reason that some people see ghosts and some don't, ghosts would need, by necessity, be proven to exist for the studies to be done.

  2. It could be that the ones that see them are mental.

  3. A psychologist friend told me one time that there are several things that can cause visual hallucinations.

The people who have these believe that they seen a variety of things, including ghosts, when in actuality nothing is there.

There are several different types of psychological and physiological disorders that can cause this.  And of course drugs, psychosis, ocular problems,  injuries, etc.

I am including a very good link that goes into all of the different things that can cause visual hallucinations, etc.

Since there is really no evidence for the existence of ghosts or paranormal, a more logical explanation would be hallucinations cause by the wide variety of disorders that can be found in the link provided.

Don't be diverted by some trying to come up with theories about how ghost emit light,  etc.   All of these theories are utter bunk, without any scientific validity whatsoever.  People can say anything.

And there is not one smidgen of evidence that the pineal gland has anything at all to do with anything paranormal.  Since it is seated deeply in the brain, and was the last gland for which a function is known.  All of that came together to form various myths about it.

We now know the function of the pineal gland.  It produces melatonin, that modulates wake/sleep patterns and seasonal functions.  It plays a major role in sexual development,  hibernation, seasonal breeding ,  metabolism, etc.   The pineal gland is larger in children, and the large amount of melatonin is thought to inhibit sexual development.   We have studied the pineal gland of man and other animals extensiviely and have never found that it has anything to do with paranormal activity.   So saying that the pineal gland let's you be able to see "ghosts"  is reaaallllllyyyyyyy stretching it!

Next time you are at the doctor, ask him what the pineal gland does and if it allows you to see ghost.   See what they say.

You need to take a factual and level headed look at this if you really want to understand why some people think they see "ghosts" and others don't.

If you ever get a chance to speak with a mental health professional on this, they can give you some good psychological and biological causes for this.

To be honest I think some people watch to much  "boo" TV.  Ha.

But I am including a link that will show you the function of the pineal gland.    Good reading and very educational.

And remember when looking at this phenomena it is a lot better to go by scientific literature, investigation,  and what trained professionals say, rather than the opinions of the friendly neighbor hood "ghosthunter" , "psychic", or so called self educated "experts in the paranormal".

Just always remember that "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence."    I am seeing a lot of extraordinary claims, but no evidence at all.

Use your head, and hope this helps.

  4. Because some people are batshit crazy?

  5. i think that the person who doesn't see the ghost is probably so scared that their mind blocks out the image.

    lol. just a thought = )

  6. some ppl believe and others dont.

  7. Good question.

In my opinion, the vast majority of ghost sightings are misinterpretations of normal events (i.e. anomalies) or else observing something that isn't' there (i.e. on the verge of sleep).  Whatever the reason, the bulk of sightings are made in situations that are anything but ideal (i.e. corner of eye, at night, etc.)

Although it's not a widely recognized explanation, it also seems like many people who see ghosts have what's been called a "fantasy-prone personality", meaning a person reporting a ghost is more likely to report aliens and other paranormal phenomena.  Such people appear to be psychologically predisposed to interpret normal events as paranormal in nature.

  8. Meankitt.. is right on the pineal gland...EVEN a blind man can see when this gland opens, but it works when ghost or spirits come near. I know because it happens to me when I sleep, when spirits come near, even tho I am asleep, I can see them in the room when it opens.

They're easier to see when the lights are out, because there's no light to go through them, and depending on what stage the manifestation is in.

Most of the ones I've seen were usually spirit from a higher dimension, some people do mix up ghost and spirits, and at times that is easy to do. But usually spirits do come to a person for a reason. Ghost show up bluntly, because most don't realize that they're dead. they too can control the way they manifestation and show themselves. Ghost and spirits can connect to one of your senses to communicate, that you would know or see them.

Some people attract ghost and spirits, a theory believed that their soul is larger, usually a compssionate type person aura puts out more of a glow, and another reason why these type people have OBE's as their soul when relaxed just floats out.

  9. There is a theory that the pineal gland is responsible for psi abilities.   The pineal releases melatonin and I find it interesting that melatonin production decreases as we age.  Could that explain why children with their abundant stores of it are more capable of seeing spirits than adults?  Melatonin is also produced when we are in the dark.  Blind people have higher levels than sighted people.  Many of them have also been able to heighten their other senses because of that.   Just another wacky theory, but who knows?
