  1. I think there have been some prototypes of sterlings that produce usable energy, but I don't think any have ever been commercially manufactured.  Their power to size / weight ratio is just not enough to make it worth it.  Great principle, though.  Someday I'll get around to building one.

Oh, there was one company that made a little one that you put atop a woodstove & it drove a small fan to force the warm air around.  Can't remember where I found it..  google should do ya'.

  2. Today, there are many companies developing Stirling devices for niche markets, such as cogeneration units and power generation using alternative fuels. Stirling engines have come a long way from the large and heavy engines of the 19th century, thanks to advancements in materials, manufacturing processes, theory and analysis methods.

Since sterling engines can be use waste heat from any source, they have started using them in several applications.

The HVAC market is developing them so furnaces can power their own fans.

The Solar market is using large dish arrays to focus the suns energy to use them to create electricity.

NASA is using them with radioisotopes for power on unmanned spacecraft.

There are many more applications in developement.  For company names see the websites.

  3. You could have one made.  I don't think they have been manufactured in quantity for some time.
