  1. Water vibrates at the same wavelength as microwave, that's why food, and liquids get warmer. Even foods without water in them retain moisture in the atmosphere. Basically water is the main absorber of microwave.


  2. Yes, foodstuffs and liquids. (Metals are a no-no).

  3. It is important to note that "Microwaves" actualy describes a Electomagnetic radiation over a range of wavelengths. and a micowave oven uses a specific wavelength to cause the water molecules to vibrate.  (creating heat)

    Most metals can sheild from microwave radiation

    Absorbing Microwaves is a slightly diferent senario as most things absorb it, but it is to what extent it is done that I can't tell you :)
