Helping others will first require you to ask them what their issues and problems/challenges are. Then ask them how they think they can help themselves. Then ask them if they mind if you helped them and how you can help them. Decide and brainstorm with them of different ways to help them and then decide if you're able to help them or if they need the help of someone else (a professional for example) - in such case you may need to help them research on how to find the help they need. Read up on the "cycle of socialization" and the "cycle of liberation", also read up on "ending poverty", "bottom of the pyramid", "social entrepreneurship" and look up idealist.com, worldchanging.com,  and explore the different ways in which people are helping each other and benefiting from it. Helping economically - How ?  Do you mean monetary assistance.  Yes, you can ; but to what extent and for how long.

For spiritual help,  you should have a wide and a deep knowledge in Vendantha Philosophy ( if you are a Hindu ).

please be clear what type of benefit you want to have by helping others economically and spiritually. A kind of quid pro quo, something in return ?if so, then, perhaps, you cannot. if you want to help others, please do it without any expectation. in Tamil, there is a proverb, if you donate somthing thru your right hand, your left hand should not be aware of it.
