  1. no the money you get from plastic is near non existent

glass is about the same very little compared to pop cans

  2. Of course there is money to be made of plastic recycle items. In California, you can get refund for plastic, like PET bottles and plastic "milk" bottles and even glass and all sort of metal.

In Washington state, we do mixed recycling in most areas. That means we mix different sort of recycle items in one bin. We pay TAX to get it picked up by the curb. Taxes are used to pay, local, like Seattle, recycling contractors like Allied Waste (former Rabanco), Waste Connection, Waste Management and Smurfit Stone, to separate "all" this along big conveyor systems, using low cost labour. They recycle tons of this every day and ship it to China in Export containers. A lot of mixed recycling goes on export as is. Paper industry currently buy waste paper from these recycle contractors, like Old News Print, ONP and pay about 165USD per ton, and it still contains 10-15% garbage, mostly plastic milk- and PET bottles, glass and metal cans. After cleaning process it's impossible to recycle due to chemical contamination. It goes to landfill.

This tells me that something is wrong with mixed recycling.

Recycling industry is not going broke today. They make good money. On OUR expense. TAXES.

If everybody separated all recycling at "home" or at office, (vendors pick up their own stuff at office) and deliver to recycle centers, we would make a much better job separating to a much lower cost. We would use much less energy for transporting recycling. Every retailer should by law have to take responsibility for recycling the packaging we get when we buy food, and other stuff. There should be a little recycle center at every super market, mall, gas station. That way we can bring it back recycling, to no cost, next time we do shopping.

Some stores bale their own card board and ship it back to their warehouse with their own deilvery truck. Thats the way to do it. No extra miles and diesel to transport it. And it will work the same way from the warehouse to the industry, paper mill for that card board. This can be done more and better for everything that can be recycled.  We save energy, reduce landfill and get a cleaner world.

  3. MAYBE IF YOU OWN A RECYCLING COMPANY, BUT IN SEATTLE THEIR GETTING RID OF PLASTIC BOTTLES, THEIR TOO COSTLY TO MAKE FROM.
