  1. Even if you go for natural/herbal medicines, they also create DEPENDABILITY.

  2. I'm not sure where you live, but St. John's Wort is a common herbal remedy available at pharmacies and health food stores.  Speak to the pharmacist or store employees.  You could also consider consulting a herbalist or naturopath.  Here is a link to a site to give you an idea about prices in the US.

How long does it take to become effective?  Ask at the store.  About three or four weeks usually before you notice a difference, just like with antidepressants.

Get some exercise and time outside every day.  Try to do some physical work.

You could try working through a cognitive behavioural workbook.  A good one is Mind Over Matter, available at Amazon Books (see link).  Also consider asking your family doctor for a referral to a therapist who can help you with coping strategies.

Keep your family doctor in the loop, whatever route you decide to try.  Usually they don't mind if you want to try alternative therapies.  He/she will be worried about you and will want you to check in to give feedback on your progress.

    Good luck.

  3. There are many things you can do to help treat your depression.

Moderate exercise for at least 20 - 30 minutes, daily, and up to an hour. Brisk walking is good, and try to be mindful of the feeling your foot makes as it hits the ground: it is a relaxation technique. Also use daily, one of the relaxation methods in sections 2, 2.c, 2.i, or 11, and/or yoga, Tai Chi, and/or the EFT, in sections 2.q, 2.o, and section 53, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris whichever works best for you.

Take 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements, daily: (certified free of mercury) it is best if consumed with an antioxidant, such as an orange, or grapefruit, or their FRESHLY SQUEEZED juice. If vitamin E is added, it should be certified as being 100% from natural sources, or it may be synthetic: avoid it. Also take a vitamin B complex which is certified as being 100% of natural origin; a deficiency in vitamin B9 (folic acid, or folate) is known to cause depression. Around 30% - 40% of depressed people have low vitamin B12 levels. Depressed females using the contraceptive pill may benefit from vitamin B6 supplements.

Occupational therapy (keeping busy allows little time for unproductive introspection, and keeps mental activity out of less desirable areas of the brain). As options, if desired, either a known, effective herbal remedy, such as St. John's wort, (the strength varies, but the supplier should be using a standardised hypericin content, so follow the directions) or supplements, such as SAMe, or Inositol (from vitamin and health food stores, some supermarkets, or mail order: view section 55 at ezy-build ).

You can get the wort from supermarkets (use the German ones: I am informed that some local varieties are less effective) and them all from vitamin & health food stores. I don't know where you are: call a few places nearby and price them. Mail order suppliers: see section 55, at ezy build, or use your search engine: check them out here, to ensure reliability.

  4. there are a couple that I know about!

But, are feel really bad like though of killing yourself? Weight lose of 10 or more pounds or gain of 10 or more! If So u need real meds - drugs!!!!!!!!! I would do the drugs before doing the natural pills because they take many weeks to help u!

Fish oil helps and vitmans c, B12, folic acid.

  5. Yes, there are.

I suggest you research some herbal/natural companies and not just take the word of strangers.  Just as with regular meds, mixing herbs with other medications and even other herbal products can cause problems.

    Some good natural products are:

    natures sunshine products

    mannatech

    Dr. Mercola

    Good luck & be careful

  6. I use St. John's wort, sold in pill form at around $18 (AU) from the supermarket. You have to take it three times a day.

I have been taking them for a week and haven't seen much improvement in my depression, though.

  7. St. John's Wort

    SAM-E
