  1. Yes, but they are generally limited to children older than 10 and many specific to sibling groups.  My state (MN) currently has none.  In fact, I don't know of a single Northern state that has an orphanage.

  2. Yes

  3. Not in the original sense. If at all possible, a child is placed in a foster home. Group homes under their various names are usually reserved for children who cannot adapt to a foster placement (i.e. fire starters, those who very aggressive or sexual, chronic runaways, chronic drug abusers, and so on).

  4. yes, they're not just always little babies from unwed teens like in the past.  They're often called something different along the lines of youth homes (even though that sounds a little criminal) or add "school" to the name.  60 Minutes or one of those did somehting, on how they'll run these parent days, almost like pagents, which tears at your heart strings

  5. Yes there are!

Visit www.RescuedOrphans.com  They are the premier directory of orphanages on the internet, listing orphanages worldwide by state or country served.

  6. This might help:

  7. Maybe, but Delaware does not have orphanages

  8. They are called "group" homes here in the great white north, mostly pre-teens and teens.

  9. Yes, there are hundreds of them still, but they are now referred to as "Children's Homes" and generally the children who live in them are hard to place kids from foster care. Below is a link to one of them. They are rarely orphans - but then again a lot of the kids who were in orphanages back in the day were rarely orphans too. My Aunt and Uncle were both in an orphanage as children because their father was ill and their mother couldn't take care of them.

eta: here is just one of many that I found for a Northern state:

  10. YES! there are also open adoption agnecies that work with pregnant women trying to find a good home for the baby to be. do a google search and I am sure you will find one
