  1. only bt i'm afraid,

but stick with them, you'll only get duped by a fly by company

  2. Hi I believe you can get a landline contract from Virgin.

  3. No, B.T have the uk contract to supply the  line network

  4. No BT is the only company that can supply a land line if there is not one into the premises, even if there is a line into the premises you will still have to go through BT to get it activated which will result in a connection fee and a contract.

All other suppliers can only switch active BT lines, as they buy the use of the line on a wholesale basis.

  5. Yes, if you are in a cabled area you can get a land-line from Virgin Media.

However, if you are not in a cabled area your line will ultimately be supplied by BT regardless of who bills you for it.

Most of the "alternative" firms, such as TalkTalk, Tiscali, OneTel etc. need you to have a BT line and place their service over the top.  Some can arrange for you to be billed wholly through them (so you don't get a BT bill) but regardless the actual line will have been supplied to them via BT's wholesale arm, 'OpenReach'.

BT is bound by a 'universal service agreement' so if you live out in the sticks and require a new line they are obliged to give you one for the same price as installing in a busy town.

  6. talk talk
