Is there any place or way to get things tested for lead and zinc for free?

Is there any place you can send samples to to get an object tested for lead and zinc for free? Besides postage, I mean. I know they make at home testing kits but I've heard that they're not accurate.

Try calling your local health dept. They might be able to help out, themselves, at no cost.  If not, they could probably send you in the correct direction!
