Question:

Is there any point to using your turn signal when you are making the turn or halfway through it?

I think we other drivers figured it out at the point what you are doing. If you forget then just don't bother. Too late to do any good. What do you say?

  1. Yes turn it on anyway!  It lets other drivers know that you simply forgot to do it sooner and that you are not just an inconsiderate jerk.

  2. Other drivers aren't the problem, cops are, turn it on anyway, might save you a ticket

  3. I, unlike some folks here, get what you are saying. I hate when someone moves over in front on you, and then puts their signal on when they are already half-way into the lane. I also hate when someone slams on their brakes in front of you to make a right turn, and either uses no signal at all, or turns it on as they're making the turn. It would be nice if I could get a signal a few feet from the turn to warn me to slow down, as this person is going to need to slow to make the turn.

  4. I sometimes forget to signal and then I just do it as im turning in case I get pulled over- I can say I used the signal (even though it wasnt before I DID use it lol ). Obviously if you have already made the turn- you dont need to let people know that you are turning- but yeah I just do it anyways to cover my butt.

  5. I say drivers like you p**s me off!!

  6. I agree with you. They should use their blinker before they turn. I do, because of safety reasons & common driver courtesy.~~

  7. Yes still use it for safety reasons, you will never know...

  8. I agree with Darren, surrender your driving privileges.

  9. I'd do it anyway in case a police car is around.  And it to people behind you (including me) will/would think that you usually DO use your turn signal but by mistake you put it on late, where as it you DON'T use it at all people will think you're a jerk who doesn't  pay any attention to traffic laws and safety.

I have a bumper sticker on my car that says, "If you can't operate your turn signals, what makes you think you can operate the rest of your car?"

    ;)

  10. Speaking of the drivers, not you, who have forgotten to do it beforehand but remember just as you (correction) they are at the corner, "Turn on your turn indicator to remind yourself that you always do. It was a mistake that is rare and did not lead to an accident, but it is more important as a reminder and correction for yourself than for the possibility that a police officer might be watching you."

My problem is that I signal a little extra early to get drivers behind to change lanes as I do not brake for the corner but coast early enough that I am at the right speed to take the turn. Many times I put on the emergency flashers at night to get them to go around so that they will make it through the green traffic light. Just because I want to save gas does not mean that I will cause others to suffer worse gas mileage.

  11. I think it is better than nothing since you at least have some idea of where they are going, (if you happen to be in the road into which they are turning it may give you the chance to pull out) or it could help people who are crossing the road.

  12. The police do not see things your way.  You could get a ticket if the cop is in a bitchy way.
