Is there any proof of existence of water vapor during the Big Bang besides hydrogen?

guderian93, Let me explain, I've read somewhere that a giant nebula consisting of hydrogen atoms burst when it's internal pressure went beyond a certain limit, thus causing the big bang. I was merely questioning the existence of water vapor (or rather oxygen atoms combined with hydrogen) at the time of the explosion.

  1. hydrogen is not water vapor, water vapor is water (hydrogen and oxygen) in a gaseous state. also "during" the big bang?

  2. No, there would not have been any oxygen until it was produced in stars. For the first few hundred thousand years, there wasn't even any molecular hydrogen; everything was plasma.

  3. No, there was no oxygen until stars formed, a long time after the big bang. Hydrogen didn't even form until recombination 350,000 years after the big bang.

Water vapour simply wasn't present in the universe before stars started fusing nuclei together.

Also, in the wods of nobel prize winning Feynman: "so it agrees with experiment... does that mean it is proven right? NO! It simply means it isn't proved wrong!"

    Great lecturer.

  4. We can't even prove the Big Bang.  It's only a theory until someone gives it good reason not to be.

  5. No, oxygen had to be formed in a star, the first star did not form after the big bang for millions of years.

  6. No, there isn't. In fact, theories say there were not even any atoms in the universe for quite some time after the big bang. Only later, when the expansion had cooled things off a bit could protons form from the pure energy in the universe at that time to make hydrogen atoms. But no oxygen was made at that time. That came from stars which didn't form until much later. You need both hydrogen and oxygen to make water. It is all theory of course. since none of that can be seen or measured. So really thee is no proof of almost anything that long ago. Just theories.

  7. theres no prove of a big bang
