  1. and on top of every other answer above, the UK is not part of Shengen.

  2. With as much terrorism as there is in the world today most people moving from one country to another should expect random searches.  Here in the US they are done at all airports not only on flights to other countries but on domestic flights too.  This is also true of people boarding cruise ships.  I am fairly certain this is what happened to you.

  3. Many people are searched at Calais when leaving France to check if they are not carrying back too much cigarettes, tobacco, alcohol etc or illegal meat products. I know the amount is unlimited for personal use but they are very strict and stop many people to ensure no smuggling etc.

  4. Random Searches.

You set off the metal detector.

Your name is similar to another person whose name is on a list.

There is something in your bag that looks suspicious.

    You act suspiciously.

Could be any number of reasons.

  5. Nothing to do with your passport. you were just picked on perhaps becuse you looked suspicious or your number was up.

Don't complain it is all done to improve security.

  6. Why do you think the possession of a ' new British passport' is any different from people with old British passports or even foreign passports old and new?

We are all subject to being searched, the dodgy looking ones usually more often.

  7. 1.From Calais,I would be a bit miffed because they don't check any other nations. They dont check to see if they actually have a passport and they arrive in the UK and hey presto, their seeking asylum.

2.They hate us as much as we hate them.

  8. It's just random.  I've been searched flying from Jersey to Stanstead and on boarding Eurostar to Brussells.

I'm usually in my work clothes, so nicely turned out, I don't fit the usual troublemaker demographic.  The staff have always been nice about it so it doesn't bother me at all.

  9. People are searched all the time all over the world regardless of nationality, s*x, age, etc.

I had 24 flights last year all over the world and just accept being searched as part of flying, some airports search you two of three times because they are military or are at a high risk status.

New passports may attract moree attention as will one that is extremely worn but i think your looking for a reason that probably doesn't exist.

Get used to it and indeed welcome it, there more people on your aircraft that are searched, the safer you are.
