My friends and my husband and I were going to get together for a late lunch on the weekend and they wanted to go to a place's that you always have to sit and wait to be seated. We have waited once for an hour before being seated then the service was losey. He was snippy and rude so we didnt meet them for the rest of the weekend. They havent spoke to us since. We are not big on sitting in the bar either because we arent big on drinking we wanted to go some where we didnt h ave to wait or sit in the bar.

  1. While you are waiting why not visit with your friends.  Do you want to go to a crappy restaurant that never has a wait or just waste time, energy and gas driving all over town to decent restaurants trying to find one that doesn't have a wait.  You apparently don't like these people very much otherwise you wouldn't be so concerned about wasting your time waiting and enjoy life while you waited.  I wouldn't want to hang out with you and your husband as you sound like everything is all about you.

  2. You should have thought about this PRIOR to agreeing to go. You KNEW you would have to wait.....Now let me explain....

First of all, most restaurants with a good rep and good food have a wait ...30 minutes and up.....what is big deal....gives more time to talk to friends, family, whoever you are with.....if you don't drink you CAN STILL sit in bar and drink coffee or soda........sounds like you just didn't want to go where they went and you made it ibvious to them and they (HE) retaliated by being snippy.......so the service was lousy, maybe your company (meaning you to friends) was also.....

you and husband need to re-evaluate friends and what you both think is acceptable and what things you will and will not accept with friedns.  All relationships (including friendships) work on a give and take basis.....

  3. you gotta give then some time to kill the rats and cockroaches

  4. If the food is worth it and im not super hungry, then I'll wait.

  5. No, I don't think so.  If that's not the dining experience you enjoy than you're wasting your money. On the other hand, if it's just a problem of having to wait, maybe there are solutions. I've seen customers discreetly slip a  few dollars to the right person in order to get get seated promptly.

It would be courting disaster again to just go over there cold without trying to make some arrangements ahead of time. Perhaps you could secretly make a call or go see the manager about some VIP treatment.

Then again, maybe you can find another place to dine that you all can enjoy. I've had the best luck with small hole in the wall  establishments where the food is outstanding, the atmosphere is quaint and hardly anybody knows about the place yet.

A couple years ago, I found this superb French restaurant where the chef did it all.  He owned the place (a small house he converted and decorated in Country French).  He had one person helping him do various jobs.  If she was doing something else than he seated you, took your order and served you!  If there weren't any other customers, he'd come out and visit!   The man was traveling around the world on his little yacht and when he needed money, he'd open a restaurant for awhile.  I really miss that place!

What you probably need to do is a little research before you make any more dinner engagements with these two.

  6. I have zero patience, and would probably never sit that long.( I don't care how good the food is).

  7. Despite what people say about rep and such waiting 45 mins for a table at lunch most likely means the service and or kitchen just suck. Just becuase the restaurant is usy doesn't meanit is any good. If you don't want to wait go someplace else, and if a server is rude eithr bring to up to his manager or leave im a poor tip.

  8. Hey, are you going to lunch to eat? Or are you going to lunch to gab? I know when I go to lunch, I want to eat. You can gab with friends anytime anywhere. Usually when you wait for a table, you end up looking at everyone else that's waiting. Not impressive.
