I am moving and in that process you usually get a phone at the new house.

My wife and I have cell phones. No kids. So why have a home phone?

Is there any good reason.

Oh, our home is in line of sight of a cell tower adn reception is great, 4 bars.

Thanks for answering

  1. Guaranteed 911/e911 is the only good reason to have land-line.  If you feel confident with your cell 911 service, then cut the cord to Ma Bell.

If you want HS Internet and have Cable TV then Cable Internet is fine and you don't need DSL service with your Telco.  But, if you don't have Cable, then you may be able to get Dry-Loop DSL or Naked DSL over phone line without the phone service... just depends on who can supply it to your address.  Otherwise, Wireless HS Internet is becoming more common these days, in which case, you don't need phone line anymore.

I now only use VoIP over my Cable Internet for my phone services.  I cut the cord on Ma Bell many months ago and am saving a bundle because of it...

  2. It is always good to have a Home phone, because most of the companies when they ask for your database would ask only your home phone number for records and you have chances of cellular phones getting lost but home phones i rarley hear that they get lost ,

also consider if your aged parents or a guest comes and stays at your home and they dont have a cell phone and you and wife had gone somewhere out n if you guys wanna contact them , yoy need a home phone

  3. 911 purposes. emergency service will know exactly where you are. also if you plan on getting an alarm on your new home. you can get a basic line very cheap. If you ever misplace your cell it's good to have as a back up

  4. I cannot see a good reason for you "needing" a land line, unless you want broadband ADSL, or Sky TV.

The only two reasons I can think of is for other people - its cheaper to call a landline than a mobile phone, but that's the only reason I can really think of for the cost, and reason 2 is if you do for any reason need to call the emergency services, they will know where you live, were as with a mobile it takes a little time for them to get this information ever if you are a pay monthly customer.

    Hope this helps you?

  5. i would recommend a cheap corded home phone jsut for an emergency i say  corded so if you have a power outage you have a phone no powrr no cordless buti would have a corded phone just for emergecies and get the cheapest plan you can get

  6. well i guess it's important ,

sometime you might need it for an emergency and your cellphone is out of battery

and there's another thing ..-don't know if it's in your country-

but that you don't have to pay for national calls ..

  7. I have not had a landline for 5 year, and don't need one either!!!!

When I move my provider stays the same and the number goes with me!!

  8. I use it as a number to give out so that people dont get me on my cell phone if I dont want to be bothered. I have a VOIP line thru my cable service and  Skype line as a teen line. We also all have cell phones but to save on the minutes we have these otherlines. After Grandma moves on to the man upstairs we might drop the VOIP line and just keep skype but having that line isnt killing us. With the Cable phone features you can easily adjust the call forwarding and find me features to your cell anyway.
