Is there any relationship between atmospheric conditions and reported psychic phenomena?

Question

Are more phenomena reported when it's cold or warm? How about rainy, snowy, windy or sunny days? Perhaps during a particular moon cycle? Daytime or night? Winter, Summer, Spring or Fall?

This an area of research (not ghost hunting) where amateurs could make a contribution. One would have to set some parameters like all published accounts of hauntings since 1980 and then proceed to find these cases. This of course lacks the thrill of hanging out in dark lonely place waiting to capture a photo of a ghost so I don't see many groups running to do actual research which I think is letting a great opportunity for adding to the knowledge of the field pass but oh well.

Of course this could also be tried experimentally with ESP tests, Ganzfeld, Remote Viewing, etc. being conducted under different environmental conditions to see if there is any detectable difference in performance.

There were attempts early on (1800's) by two different English psychical researchers to explain all hauntings in terms of underground water ways (which rapidly faded as many reports could not be explained this way) and another that suggested that psychic impressions were recorded within moisture (mist, fog, humidity) which also rapidly faded when research was done outside of England.

Many groups today do record the phase of the moon, current levels of solar activity and other environmental conditions. However, there is not a standard set of measurements that is recorded for every case by every investigator.

Yes. Have you noticed that America and England seem to have more reported sightings etc...I know this doesn't answer your question but I've asked myself the same thing and though I can't fully explain it..I feel certain conditons allow for phenomena to be seen.."lost in translation?"..Sorry..I'll leave this one to the experts..

There was just a report out about solar active and paranormal active.  Sunspots, solar wind, solar mass ejections all seem to increase the amount of ghost sightings.

Not really. I am sure if there is, its very tied with cultural myths and the persons personal belief in how psychic powers are supposed to work.

Perhaps when people are snowed or rained in, they will get bored and allow thier imaginations to create delusions of psychic phenomena.

I think the majority of reported psychics however, are hoaxes and con-men, not the self delusional kind. I that case, it would have nothing to do with the weather.

it's in every nation's culture some kind of myth about the phases of the moon affecting peoples' minds - the full moon especially. even those who strongly deny any psychic phenomena get a headache every now and then during the full moon.

those involved in witchcraft activities have specific recipes for 'spells' which are to be cast only during a certain cycle: the crescent moon gives/brings power, strength, etc.; waxing moon is the time when you place the [bad] jinx; the new moon is for money, new beginnings etc.

modern practical mystics keep in mind these stories - so something must be true about it.

as for all the other meteorological phenomena, i believe it has to do with the 'normal' part of you - if a stormy, gloomy, bleak day makes you melancholic, so will be the thoughts which shape the reality around you.

night is best if you tend to 'hear' other peoples' thoughts - there is more silence around you, so you'll feel more safe.

i, personally, am a little agoraphobic and i find it easier to stroll at night - little or no light makes places smaller, there is less pressure and so on.

I don't know if there is a database with this sort of information in it.  Chances are most sightings occur indoors, so the witnesses may not remember the prevailing weather conditions.
