Is there any risk in merchant navy?

I mean please tell me and let everyone know the good and bad points in merchany navy occupation!!

  1. There is risk in any line of work.  The added risk from being at sea is you can expect no help from traditional sources for problems you may encounter.  Most mariners are dedicated, hard working professionals who deal with these dangers very effectively on a daily basis. You must decide if the added risk is outweighed by the travel, freedom from daily routine, lack of commuting to work etc.  It is a life that is hard to explain.  When you return home you will have very little in common with those you have known for years.  To me it was worth the sacrifices until I married and then retired to a shore side life.  The only real way to find out is try it.  You cannot decide from any book or web-site.   Hope this helped.


  2. look at the IMO.org and the International Seafarer's Union web sites..depending on the country your ship is registered in and the company you work for, it can be the fifth most dangerous job in the world..........
