Yes; however, onshore and near-shore studies show that the number of birds killed by wind turbines is negligible compared to the number that die as a result of other human activities such as traffic, hunting, power lines and high-rise buildings and especially the environmental impacts of using non-clean power sources.

    Many more thousands of birds are killed by windows every year than are killed by wind turbines. Newer wind turbines are much large and therefore the blades turn slower and appear to be reducing the numbers of birds killed. Some of the very early wind turbine installations such as the one in Altamont Pass near San Francisco did kill a fair number of birds.

    The important point is that on balence Wind Energy does more good for birds than harm.
