Question:

Is there any signifcance to a dumpling? if there tell me the story behind it.?

  1. No.  Historical records show that they were being made as early as 3600 BC.  The term "dumpling" actually started being used in the 17th century.  My guess is people made balls of dough and "dumped" them into the pot.  Some ingenious person decided to call them "dumplings" and it stuck.  That's all there is to it.


  2. well go back to the pioneers and the cowboys and trail food

    a good trail cook would use Dutch Ovens over the camp fire..

    rather than have several pots working (put the biscuits on top of the stew),,, a Dutch Oven could be buried in coals from the fire,,, to toast and bake the biscuits on top

  3. Yeah.....meal stretchers!!   Lots of meat/vegis were hard on 'country folk'.....so they created stretchers (noodles, potatos, dumplings, etc).
