  1. there is tons of snow on the south island near queenstown.  its in the southern hemisphere so when its summer in the u.s. its actually winter down there.

New Zealand is often considered to be what Europe looked like before man came along and ruined it.   The country is so picturesque it is frequently used in major motion pictures that require European style snow capped mountains and open spaces.   Recent movies that come to mind include the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and the first Chronicles of Narnia movie.  Most of the ski resorts are on the south island.   New Zealand is for Australians wanting to ski what Switzerland and Austria are for Europeans.  It is the nearest place where you can ski on real slopes and not "snow fields" as we do in Australia.   The country is to snow what Australia is to deserts - they have quite a lot.
