I don't know freeware to conver dat video to avi, mpeg,my friends recommend this video converting software to me, it's not free, but it works pretty well, I think it well worth the money, If you need more info, here you can free download it to have a try

Go to tools folder options, uncheck hide extension of known files.

rename the file to xyxz.mpg

It wil be saved as MPEG
