I heard that people in the middle-east eat couscous when they want to make friends again with somebody whom they had fight with. I wonder if there is such a story or anecdote related to curry, if there is any special meaning in eating curry.

  1. The word curry is from the old English and was spread around the globe which is why so many different cultures have what are generically described as curries. It simply means a dish of prepared food....there was a programme on TV. Not long ago about Richard the seconds cook who left behind a collection of recipes which he entitled a selection of curries. So, no, there is no special occasion for eating curry, although certain curries are linked to certain occasions such as weddings and so on.(Lamb   Tikka massalla served with silver leaf for instance).

  2. Curry is served all around South Asia. Curry is just a braised cooked dish with a set of spices that give it the unique flavor. Its a method of cooking. In India, almost every meal has a curry (Vegetable, or Meat), Grains (Roti, or Rice), Dried bean soup.

On special occasion, you make richer curries. Among non-vegetarian Punjabi weddings you will have Lamb curry, or Buttery Chicken served with Naan (Clay oven baked bread). In Vegetarian weddings, you will have Aloo Gobhi (Potatoes and Cauliflower) served with Poori (deep fried bread).

To answer your question, curry is eaten every day. On special occasions, the curries are just milder and richer.

  3. It's always curry time.

Or maybe if you want to maybe lose a pound to make a wrestling team requirement.  (if you catch my drift...)

  4. the pide pipper afect

  5. As an Indian, curry can be eaten 24/7.  Curry is a British word for the Tamil word "kari" (stew or gravied dish).

On special occasions such as birthdays or anniversaries, one will eat their favorite curry but there really is no special meaning.  Wedding buffets will offer a wide variety of really rich and decadent curries.

  6. Friday night, is my special occasion for curry!

  7. No, any time is curry time!

  8. There' s only one occasion to need curry, the 'I'm hungry' time!

  9. I may be wrong since I'm not from a culture that eats curry regularly, but judging by my curry friends I'm sure there isn't a particularly special occasion for eating curry.

I mean... they eat it most of the time

However that doesn't mean that they don't celebrate over curry. There are plenty of dinner function places and restaurants that have special recipes for curry where the occasion is special.
