  1. Surrealism is probably the closest thing you will find as far as an actual time period goes.


  2. If my teacher asked this, I'd check my notes very carefully for a definition of 'alternate reality' and a mention of a specific author or group of authors. I think one could argue that science fiction and fantasy authors of the 20th century fit this. Also the Romantics of England explored supernatural elements and non-scientific explanations of human experience. In a very broad sense, any author that suggests another way of seeing the world could be said to be proposing an 'alternate reality', but that's probably stretching it too far.
