  1. the alaskan  railway offers passenger service.    amtrack also has sleepers.  the napa valley wine train would be cool to check out.

  2. The American Orient Express is a beautiful experience. Plus Amtrak has pullman trains.

  3. Sure.  Amtrak has a rail network that goes all across the USA.  All their overnight trains have first class sections with sleeping cars  The dining car is free with sleepers, all others must pay prices similar to Applebee's.

When Amtrak offers first class, it's a fairly reasonable upcharge for what you get, unlike the airlines. For instance sleepers are $150-$200 a night extra, but that's for two people, and meals are free.

VIA Rail Canada has the same thing in Canada.

If you're crazy rich, you can also ride decadent, overpriced luxury trains from Grande Luxe http://www.americanorientexpress.com/ and Rocky Mountaineer http://www.rockymountaineer.com/

  4. Yes, they have first class accomodations on trains too......not like the a hotel on wheels, but bigger rooms and more perks.  Not that much more expensive compared to the economy class.  See a travel agent and they can tell you prices, packages and such.   Best of luck to you.
