  1. What kind of lessons are you looking for? Beginner, intermediate or advanced? Shortboard or Longboard? Are you just getting into the sport, or is it something you've done before? Do you have your own board, are looking to buy one or need one to use during the lesson?

My brother and I give surf lessons in Montauk, Ny during the summer, and my brother goes to school at Peddie, a private school near Freehold, Nj while I head back to college in California. We give both beginner and advanced lessons in longboarding and shortboarding, though we specialize more in the latter. My brother frequently surfs at Asbury Park, which is a bit north of Point Pleasant (about 10 miles). We're both ocean lifeguards and are trained in CPR/AED/ECC. We do have longboards and shortboards available for the lesson. The fee is negotiable based on level and time of instruction.

You can message or email me on Yahoo! or call 631-902-4813 between 8:00 am and 10:00 pm.

Or, as John suggests, ask a local surf shop. The only shop I know of is near Bradley Beach, called Eastern Lines, and I'm not sure if they give lessons, and many places only give lessons in the summer.

Good luck, and I'm glad you're interested in surfing!

  2. I can give you some info for south jersey, but I'm too out of touch with north jersey. Go to local surf shops and ask. Surf shops are the surfing consumer's link to all things in the surf industry, from clothes to lessons and camps. I have been surfing for 42 years, and I get my information from the surf shops in the places that I surf.
