  1. Short and sweet:

    Use flashcards!

You will read the material, then write the material and can have them with you 24/7 to review the material. Keep them in a sandwich bag or punch one hole in each card and keep them on a binder ring. Instant memory!

    Good luck to you!

  2. Keep a pad of paper handy to jot down extraneous thoughts that cross your mind while studying, get them out of your mind and on to paper.

Set goals before you begin each period of study. (number of pages, number of problems, etc.)

Break-up the content of study by mixing up subjects. Building in variety removes boredom.

Work for 1 1/2 hours, rest for 1/2 hour, and then work again on a new topic.

  3. repetition is key obviously, so look back on your notes often.

nutrition is important. getting a well balanced diet will help with concentration.

and getting enough sleep is BIG. you need at least 6 hours of sleep every night.

also, if you think maybe your study habbits aren't working the best for you, try doing lots of different methods of study. some people remember things better if they write something, so they'll write it 10 times each. some remember it better by reading aloud. some people are lucky and remember things simply by reading it once or twice. some study better with music or tv, others don't. some study better in the library, others better in their own room.

i found that i study best when i'm in my room with computer turned OFF, tv on but a low volume with a movie i've seen a million times (for background noise, but i've seen it and know it so i don't end up watching the whole thing). and when i try to study i always find a reason to do something else, like i'll tell myself that i'm hungry. so i usually eat a small bag of popcorn. it's easy to eat and not messy, so i don't have to take my eyes off my book, not to mention it's low calorie =P

try lots of methods to find out what works best for you.

  4. Contrary to popular belief, repetition alone will not necessarily help you remember things. You need to PROCESS the facts. By that I mean actually take them in rather than just recite.

I would suggest that flashcards and notes sheets may work, however it is the time spent making them that matters. Take your time, read through everything again, organise your notes, add colour and pictures. Mind maps are useful too. You take a large piece of paper, put the subject in the middle, then add subheadings around it and notes around the subheadings. Use different colours, highlight key words, add pictures and so on.

Find a friend who is doing the same subject as you and teach each other things. Try explaining concepts that you think may come up in the exams to your friend. Find old exam papers and prepare model answers and mark each others work. It will help to motivate you as weel, since you don't want to let each other down.

The more you do WITH your notes, the more you will remember.
