Is there any thing other than blue tooth?

Like i know we can transfer images and all from one mobile to another by blue tooth but i think both the sharing phones needs to be in close range with each other while sharing.so is their any other technology in mobile or software that we can use to transfer images etc. from one mobile to another from a long distance..Somewhat like blue tooth?

there is infrared tht little blck thing on da phone u put the phones on each othr and it will send but bluetooths better
