Is there any truth at all in this newspaper article about gaining US citizenship? Is it really true that they have to answer only 3 or 4 questions on the exam?

  1. Yes. But, those 3 or 4 are drawn randomly from a list of 96 questions. Most native-born Americans could not answer many of these questions because less than one in five native-born adult Americans has ever read the Constitution. Less than half of  native-born adult Americans can name the Member of Congress from their district. A lot can't name the Vice President or the Chief Justice of the United States and have no idea about the interaction of the three branches of the Federal government.

I helped coach my father on several occasions in the late 1940s and early 1950s to help get him his citizenship. Believe me, most native-born adult Americans would flunk this test.
