My daughter's dad was killed 15 days before she was born. He never really worked long enough to have any social security. Now I am basically raising her alone. I am curious to know is there any other program that might help me?

  1. Do you know for a fact that he didn't work enough...it is far less work needed the earlier he died....he would have had to earned 6 credits over all of the months he worked...and you earn 1 credit for every 3 months (basically). So, a year and a half of total work might be enough work to cover her....if not, then you need to look at your income and see if she/you qualify for other services such as WIC, food stamps, etc....that would be through DHEC and Dept of Social Services.

  2. Did SS actually turn you down?  You may be entitled to SSi, and/or Medicaid.  SS should give you survivor's benefits for her, you too if you were married.  Reapply for SS and definitely try for SSI.

  3. It will be based on how much you make.

You will have to go to DFAC's and see what programs you can apply for. Based on the amount of money you make, you could qualify for food stamps, welfare, medicade, etc.

You could also qualify for schooling and things like that.

  4. Medicaid? State programs. I am sure you can get food stamps and welfare. Good Luck

Sorry about your loss I feel your pain. My mother died when I was 10--I am now 17.
