I live in South Carolina, my honey is in a Florida state prison. I can't find any type of help for my kids. I don't qualify for welfare, but my paycheck just isn't enough to cover everything. It's hard enough for my kids with their dad in prison for the next 20 years. Please help!

  1. Even though you don't qualify for welfare, you might qualify for food stamps or food bank assistance. Ask your local social services agency. Also, your kids may qualify for free or low-cost medical insurance if you earn $34,000 or less. Here's the link:

Another benefit for your kids might be the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in your area. It's not money as such, but they would get mentoring and in many cases lots of great extras like being taken to the movies or interesting places by their mentor, or getting help with school work. Try not to convey your sense of discouragement to the kids if humanly possible. I know it is hard on them and on you, but it is what it is. They can still have a great future, and you can help them do it. My best wishes to you.
