Yesterday somebody broke my car window and stole my

navigation. I'm really angry about this incident because it

happened inside the apartment parking place which has a

security guard. I don't know what the h**l security guards were

doing when somebody was breaking my car window and

stolen my navigation. Is there anyway I can get a

compensation? If somebody knows how to get a

compensation please tell me about it.

  1. You can sue the apartment office, but you're going to lose.

Just like, if someone's wallet was lifted, while they were at a party in your apartment, would YOU pay them everything that was stolen?  Of course not!  It's not YOUR responsiblity!  Just like, it's not the apartment owner's responsibility to cover all your stuff that gets stolen.

  2. I doubt the apartment complex will pay.  You should claim on your auto insurance.

  3. That is an auto insurance claim.  Comprehesive claim on the glass, and personal item for the navigation unit.  Take pictures of the dammage.  Your apartment complex I'M SURE takes NO responsibility for items you leave in your vehicle.  You probably signed that on your lease or parking space addendum.  Call your car insurance company- compensation is what they are for.  Ask if this claim will raise your premium.  It may not be worth making.  If you do not know what a premium is, ask before you file the claim.  You could wind up paying A LOT more in the long run if you do not educate yourself.  They are there to help.

  4. This is not the apartment management's issue.  It's not possible for them to watch every car every moment of every day.  It takes but a minute or two to smash the glass and walk off with what is inside the car.  Has it ever occurred to you that the security guard might need to go to relieve himself at a restroom ?

Call your insurance carrier.  That is what they are there for.

  5. You can not get compensation from the apartment complex. They are not responsible for any damage that happens to your car. They are not required to have a security guard or gate.

If you have a renters policy, you can file a claim under that for the stolen navigation system (if it was a portable system that was not permanently installed in the car). Your deductible will apply. So, if the navigation was worth 300 and you have a 250 ded - then the insurance company would pay you 50. (300-250 =50). If the cost to replace the system with like, kind, quality is less than your deductible, then your insurance policy would not pay.

As far as the damage to the car goes -- you would have to file a claim under the Comprehensive coverage of your policy. If the navigation system was permanently installed in the car, then this may also cover that).

If you do not have comprehensive coverage - you are S.O.L. and will have to pay out of pocket. The only other recourse, would be to hope they catch the guy that stole it and then you could sue him. (But don't hold your breath for this to happen).
