  1. join the coast gaurd if your to nervous about fighting. you can become a helicopter pilot through that.

  2. i sure hope not. hate to see our military pilots miss out an a good job after giving so much to my country because you felt little patriotism and someone gave you a free ride.

  3. There are aviation scholarships out there.

They are few and far between, and most of them won't get you more than a few hundred bucks. There are also scholarships out there that let you decide how to spend the money. Those are also very few and far between.

You really only have two options. Military and debt (assuming your folks, or you aren't loaded) Military is not a bad option. I wouldn't do it today with all the conflict in the middle east, but thats my decision and I'm not pushing it on you.  Going into debt isn't so bad either, you will spend about $80,000 getting your ratings. You can instruct for a few months, get a job in canada making decent money and building time, then go get a good job where you will make pretty good money.

There is a third option. you get your fixed wing licenses and you get a job flying planes with some place like the border patrol. Then you build up some seniority and you have them pay for you to learn to fly helicopters. It will take years and years, but it would be a good job.

  4. Sorry, but you're trying to get into perhaps the most difficult aviation career out there.  There are plenty of Army/Navy/Coast Guard helicopter pilots out there who deserve those jobs.  There are no free rides in this industry.  You have to pay your dues.
