My family want to use fertilizer/ water (all the frickin time) and the grass still gets some yellow spots creeping in. It about 80F on average during the day. Is it worth it to water/keep green or should we let it go? Will it come back if we let it go yellow?

  1. Grass is designed to go dormit during the hot dry weather of the summer and then come back again in the fall when it rains more.  However if you want a deep green yard year round that is the envy of the neighborhood you have to fertilize 5-6 times per year and water at least an inch per week all through the growing season not just in the summer.

  2. You need to find out why it turns yellow, Dog and cat urine will do it, may take a couple of days, fungus and grubs will do it to. Call your local extension office and you may need to do a soil sample through them and they will let you know exactly what your soil is so you can give it only what it needs and save some money for beer and bar-b-q later.lol!

  3. Take a look at this info re causes and cures:

  4. Just remember to water at night because adding water in the middle of the day makes it too hot and burns up the grass.
