If you delete all your cookies, temporary internet files, history, form data, and passwords is there ANY way at all to see which sites you have visited? And how do I know if I have a back up system or not?

  1. The only real way to get everything erased is to reformat your hard drive.

I'm no help on the other stuff though. I just know this from watching too many crime/drama tv shows.

  2. yes, the FBI does it all the time; the stuff never goes away completely; your best bet would be to take your computer for a ride and drop it off in a river

  3. if you deleted it manually yes simply press ctrl+H and choose by most visited or by order and you will see all the sites there.

the best way is to use utlities( winutilities, wopti utilities , ....) to get rid of all history and files you doesnt like any one to see them.

  4. No. you can't check the history but before it you can roam to the windows temp folder for the files and images used by the browser for cookies.

OS does not back up it self automattically but you can use softwares for backing up your system.

  5. Yes, you can see pretty much everything using file recovery software.  Deleting files generally only removes the "pointer" to the file.  The data on disk remains but is flagged as being available for over write.  As long as the disk doesn't need to over write that portion, the data will remain.  File recovery software examines the disk and is able to locate most of these files (I was able to locate files on a disk I had reformatted without any problem).

As for knowing if you have a backup, you can generally hide small files and not be detected by trivial scans (i.e. if I don't know to look for it, chances are I won't find it).  If you are trying to hide larger files though, some simple utilities are very useful for detecting where the files are so you can determine if the files are needed or can be deleted (or in your case, discovered).

    ** Edit **

You can use file "shredder" software that helps over write data locations on the disk to more effectively delete data.  Search for file shredder to find several applications.
