  1. Depends on the department you want to work for. At my dept, you MUST have a degree.  A lot of depts. don't require it, just check with that particular dept. and ask about it.

  2. You can have a GED and get hired. Some depts that pay the most in your area will require 2 yrs of college or military although most don't require anything.

  3. Happens all the time. Try the police academy or just go find some county with like a handful of people in it, and then run for sheriff .... if you survive.

  4. Yes you can. Although I would suggest getting a degree if possible. The New Jersey State Police, Pennsylvania State Police, and New York State Police all require college. The Pennsylvania State Police will waive the college requirement if you have served two years as a municipal police officer in Pennsylvania. Police department requirements vary by department. Some require only a high school diploma or GED, some require 30 credits or an associate degree, and some require 60 credits or a bachelor degree. Check out http://www.peaceofficerjobs.com for excellent information and advice about becoming a police officer.

  5. the best thing to do is find the departments you like on the net. check the requirements. in ky, for the ksp, kve which are state, you must have 2 years college, or 2 in law enforcement or 2 honarable in armed forces.
