  1. Actually cameras can tell us a lot about eyesight. The tension around the eyes can let us know if the eyes are being strained or if they are relaxed. The movement of the eyes is very important. If there is a fine smoothe movement the eyes are more likely to see clearly naturally. If there is a jerky, tense, or smeary movement the eyes are more likely to be unhealthy and blurry.

Vision is way more complex then Optometry would like to get into yet natural perfect eyesight is way more simple than artificial corrections(glasses, contacts, surgery)

  2. LOL...no, an eye exam is much more complicated than what a webcam could see.

They haven't invented a program to replace 7 or 8 years of studies an optometrist does.

Was this a serious question ?

  3. No, but if you're near-sighted you can get a rough idea of prescription using a long ruler or tape measure.  Hold the ruler to the bridge of your nose, close one eye, then gradually slide something like a printed card away from you along the ruler.  When it just goes from clear to blurred, that is the "far point" of your vision.  Take the reciprocal of that distance expressed in meters, add a minus sign, and that would be your prescription in diopters.   In my case, that distance is about 40 cm, or 0.4 meters.  The reciprocal (1/0.4) is 2.5, which is about 0.25 diopters from my actual prescription.
