  1. Well sure, just playing the lowest 4 strings, but remember that they arent as thick as on a bass, so your fingers wont get as in shape as if you were practicing on a bass.

  2. Absolutely. The lowest four strings of an acoustic guitar are the same notes as those on a bass, they are just an octave higher. The fingering will be the same fret-for-fret, but they will sound an octave apart. It is not true that the bass line is "on the A string," as one answerer stated. That would only hold true for a washtub bass tuned to an A.

Another difference is that the frets are further apart on a bass than on an acoustic, so you'll have to keep this in mind when you DO play an actual bass. You will most like feel your hand having to "stretch" to reach the notes.

    Have at it!

  3. Yes it is physically possible, but it takes away from the instrument. Bass and guitar are two totally different things, bass is an octave lower. Playing a bass run on guitar just wouldn't sound right, it needs the warm sound that a bass delivers. And what if you want to practice slap? It just wouldn't work...buy a bass.

  4. yes and no. Yes the second string on the acoustic is the bass line but the other strings are not like the bass strings on the bass. There is a way to play by optic for the acoustic to sound like the bass but it might not work. As one of your friends if they gto a bass guitar just lying around so you can maybe practice more. Give it try.
