  1. You might be able to get it back, or at least get part of it back.

In OpenOffice.org Writer, in the main menu, select Tools → Options... → Load/Save → General.

Make sure that there is a checkmark in front of both “Always create backup copy” and “Save AutoRecovery Information Every’'. Make sure the amount following “Save AutoRecovery Information Every” is at least 15.

If either of these are checked you may be able to get most of your work back. But make sure they are ticked now to help avoid future problems.

Now select Tools → Options... → OpenOffice.org → Paths. The path marked Backup is where your file(s) should be. Try to open any likely files in that folder through File → Open....

That folder may be a hidden folder on your system.

To unhide the folder, if you are using Windows, double-click on any icon that will open “My Computer'' or “Windows Explorer” or press Windows-E. Click on the drive that the file is in, probably C:, Select Tools → Folder Options... → View from the menu bar in the window that pops up. Activate “Show Hidden Files and Folders”. Mouse-press “Apply to Folders”, “Apply” and “OK”.

If you are using some other operating system, you will have to check your system Help or a manuel or Help on the web if you want to unhide a folder.

  2. nope :P
