the hubby is deployed on a serivice passport and wants a US travel passport, i'm applying for mine and wondered if there was anyway he could do his at the same time or if I as a spouse with a specific POA could apply for him ect. Or should he just do it in several more months when he comes home on leave.

  1. Change the NATO passport to a regular passport but justify the request for the change.

  2. He can hold both a regular passport and a NATO passport with no problems.

It is ok for you to apply in the US for it, but if he is away then it may be a little difficult for him to sign the forms etc (they may need to be notarised depending on which passport you are applying for).

Alternatively, he could apply abroad at an embassy/consulate, or wait until he gets back to the states.

  3. Depends on how busy he is and where he's deployed. He could certainly apply for his own regular passport at the nearest US embassy. It can take a week or so depending. The won't actually make the passport there, but will send the information electronically to the Washington Passport Office which will send the passport out. Or, he could apply while he's back on leave.

  4. He could go to the nearest American Consulate to apply, as it is stressed that soldiers have civilian passports as well.

OR you could wait for him to get home.

The problem is that he MUST appear in person to sign off and take the oath
