  1. I've seen this same question asked many times.

The answer is yes, but it's definitely the ghetto approach.  Your car sub is probably non-powered and may be at 4 ohms.  You surround receiver would need to have an AMPLIFIED sub output and would have to be 4 ohm stable.  Most surround receivers have a line level output (non-amplified) for the sub out, so then you'd need a separate amp just for your sub.   If your thinking of using your Car Amp, then you'll need a high current 12V power supply and at that point you might as well do it the right way and buy yourself a home theater powered sub!

  2. Leave the car audio in the car. You can do it but.....It will cost you more than just getting the proper sub in the first place.

  3. Your home theater receiver should have a low-level subwoofer output.  Scrounge an old stereo receiver from a thrift store, yard sale, or dumpster, and use that as an amplifier (feed the signal into a "line" input on the receiver).

Car subs may not sound so good indoors, since a lot of them are designed to take advantage of the "cabin gain" inside a car, and won't do much real bass in a larger room.  There are exceptions; some very good car subs are also very good home theater subs.  Look for an enclosure design that'll give you a 3 dB down point below 40 Hz.

  4. yes, you can get upgrader or amplifier that can do both up , up and lower the volgate  to adjust to your home theatre
