Is there any way to bond with my aloof 1 year old cat?

I have four cats. one is about 4, one is 2, one is like 8 months, and (Dinky) is a year old.

They are all very affectionate...besides Dinky.

She hates being held and she hardley ever walks up to people to get pat.

She is very aloof, but I love her and I was wondering if there was a way i could bond with her some how?

Suggestions are Helpful.

  1. My cat is the same way. I bond with her by playing with her. She loves sitting in this box and playing with a folded piece of paper. I hope you learn how to bond with Dinky!!!

  2. You actually are already bonded with her, just in a different way than your more affectionate kitties.  Cats have different personalities, just like people.  I have four cats and they range from one who is quite aloof (likes to be near us but does not like to be touched or handled) to a total Velcro Kitty who would like nothing better than to attach himself to you any way he can, wherever and whenever he can.  The other two are somewhere in between.

Just keep taking care of her, feeding her and loving her, talk to her a lot, and take her ‘affection’ on her terms.  She does love you, just in her way.  Cats tend to do what they want when they want and what you want when they feel like it – if they ever feel like it.

You are doing everything just fine.  She sounds very happy and content, accept her for who she is and appreciate her all the more for it.

  3. Sounds like your cat is either very independant or just doesnt have much trust in people.

I have a cat who we took in as she was a stray, for the first year of having her she was quite aggressive when anyone got to close to her or touched her. We found that she just didnt trust us completely.

Leave yor cat approach you not the other way around. Leave her come to you on her terms prehaps you could tempt her with some treats. My cat is now a couple of years old and you could not find a more affectionate cat, she still can still be tempremental if you approach her suddenly but that just her independant nature she likes her own space.

  4. I have 2 mogs, one is ultra affectionate, always wanting hugs and she'll climb up and wrap her paws round you and nuzzle her head into your neck.  Her sister is so aloof, we nickname her The Sticklebrick as she goes rigid when you pick her up, however, once in a blue moon she'll come over for a 1 minute hug but she only wants them on "Her terms".

Your cat loves you, she just isn't one of those huggy cats - just like some people I suppose.
