Is there any way to bring an acoustic drum kit to college?

I have an electronic set (a Roland V-Drum TD-8) and I really don't like it. I really prefer an acoustic kit. I want to invest in a new acoustic kit, but I am going to college soon and do not want to waste my money. My question is this: Can I bring an acoustic kit to college and be able to play it? Do most colleges have practice space I can use to play? Can I rent practice space if I need to? Thanks a lot.

  1. This is hard to answer for sure because every situation is different, so you might want to figure out where you are going to live at the college before you buy the drum kit.  I lived in a dorm that had a big basement where people stored their luggage and big stuff that wouldn't fit it dorm rooms - that might have worked.  The Music Department has practice rooms, but that's limited to music majors, and I am not sure that you could leave your kit there.  And finally, I used to drive past a guy who set up his drums in a field (kind of a parking lot) next to the freeway.  He wailed away, and nobody complained about the noise.  Good luck.
