Question:

Is there any way to check how many hours you have on your audio collection?

I'm not looking for the size of my audio collection, such as in GB's. But in hours.

Is there a program where I can drag my musics and audio files in and as it accumulates it keeps telling me the amount of time it would take if I were to listen to it.

This is just a simple curiosity I have and really don't want this massive program just to do this small thing.

Could I infer, from the size, the amount of hours? What would be the equivalent of, say, a GB, in hours of audio?

Thanks.

  1. iTunes does just this!

It calculates the size of your library (in gigabytes) and also tells you how many songs are in your library and also how long it takes to play them all.

You can also just choose a few songs and it will give the same information for those songs.

Get the free download off the Apple website at http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

  2. I know in Windows Media Player, and similar jukebox programs, when you create a playlist, it tells you how many hours of music you have on it.  If you add everything you have to a single playlist, it should tell you how many hours worth of music you have in your collection.  There may be an easier way to find out, but that's the only way I've tried.  I don't know that there is necessarily a correlation between the actual size of an audio file and the length of the tracks, as the size of the file will vary depending on the format the file is in and the compression of the file.
