  1. There isn't much you can fix by your self due to the government outlawing all freon sales; except to a chosen number of professionals. It is a sealed system that requires silver soldering at all joints(which means acceteline is needed)(though unscrupulous "repairmen" sometimes use regular solder so you will get a leak and failure). On cleaning the evaporator coils(the ones inside) a steam cleaner is best otherwise use mild soapy water and a soft small brush. There is usualy a 5 year warrenty on the compressor(I've seen some last 20yrs but it was an old style heavy duty one)Expect to replace at 10 to 15 years.Relays/fans/capacitors can be replaced fairly easily.

  2. I presume u are referring to the A  coil. If it's clogged to the point of restriction it will probably have to be done by a service tech. Trying  to clean it without removing  it just pushes the debris further into the coils.

  3. You will have to open up the unit so you can get to the A-Frame. I know the techs use an acid wash on them. Depending on how clogged they are, you may be able to do it yourself. Be careful not to bend any of the fins over. Use a plastic brush and brush in the direction of the fins. I would start with bleach water. Also, you could get some Simple Green at Home Depot. That stuff is awesome and will dissolve the dirt and grime. Your main problem will be exposing the coil so you can clean it.

  4. you can hose them down with a garden hose.  also take a soft bristle brush and wipe away excess gunk.  but be careful that you do not puncture the coil because you could give yourself a freon leak which would lead to the a/c blowing warm air.  check out this website for some helpful suggestions.
