Is there any way to combine acupuncture with piercings?

We discussed this question during my internship in my Oriental Medicine program.

The general consensus of my instructors was that piercings over acupuncture points would eventually lose their clinical effect because of the constant stimulation of a piercing.  It would in effect permanently "turn off" the acupuncture point.

I doubt it. A piercing would have the tendancy to move around too much, because acupuncture consists of targeting a pinhead  sized area. Also, imagine having a piercing in one of these spots on your nerves....and it brushes up or gets caught on something....you would likely fall to your knees in pain. I'm no expert but, that's what I would think.
